Vodafone Idea has recently unveiled a new cloud gaming service named Cloud Play, marking a notable entry into the mobile gaming sector. This service, developed in collaboration with the Paris-based cloud gaming company CareGame, aims to bring a rich selection of premium mobile games to its users.
With a monthly subscription starting at Rs 100, Cloud Play is setting the stage for a substantial shift in how mobile gaming is experienced in India.
What Cloud Play Offers?
Vodafone’s Cloud Play service is not limited to a single genre but spans a variety of mobile game types including action, adventure, arcade, racing, sports, and strategy. Among the games announced for its launch catalogue are popular titles such as Asphalt 9, Modern Combat 5, and Shadow Fight.
Fans of classic games won’t be left out either, with options like Subway Surfers and Jetpack Joyride also available. Vodafone Idea has promised to expand this list with more games in the weeks to come. Accessibility is a key feature of Cloud Play, with support for both iOS and Android platforms.
Users can access the service through the Vi app or on the Vi website, making it easily available to a wide audience. Furthermore, the service will initially be offered for free under a “Try n Buy” model, although the exact duration of this trial period has not been disclosed.
AAA Mobile Gaming Experience
Cloud Play operates on the cloud gaming model, similar to other services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia’s GeForce Now. This means users can play games directly from the cloud without needing to download them, though a stable internet connection is required.
The benefit of this approach is significant, as it removes the need for high-end hardware to enjoy graphically intensive games. However, unlike Nvidia and Microsoft, Vodafone’s cloud gaming platform is aimed at AAA mobile games, rather than PC.
Philippe Wang, Co-founder and CEO of CareGame, highlighted the advantage of Cloud Play, stating “Cloud Play will enable all gamers in India to enjoy true AAA mobile gaming without having to invest in a new mobile phone or a gamepad, thanks to the combination of CareGame technology, iconic mobile titles from our publishing partners, and Vi networks.”
Stiff Competition
Vodafone isn’t the only Indian telecom operator to provide access to a cloud gaming platform as Reliance Jio also offers JioGamesCloud, its cloud gaming service, which includes PC games in its library, showcasing the growing competition and expansion of cloud gaming in India.
As Cloud Play rolls out its service, it’s clear that Vodafone Idea aims to capture the interest of mobile gamers across India. With its affordable subscription model, diverse game selection, and the convenience of cloud gaming, Cloud Play is poised to become a key player in the mobile gaming industry.
