Renewables developer Ib Vogt has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Apple to provide solar power with a capacity of 134MW from a project in the province of Segovia, Spain.

The Castano solar plant is one of three projects with pay-as-produced fixed price PPAs that Ib Vogt is constructing in the province.

It is expected to be fully operational in December of 2024.

Ib Vogt is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services and will provide operations and maintenance (O&M) once the project is completed.

Ib Vogt is executing a number of conservation initiatives in the development of Castano to ensure that the work aligns with environmental protection efforts.

These initiatives include reforestation efforts for local flora and fauna within the perimeter of the solar plant, the installation of nesting boxes for native birds and the provision of a protected habitat with an area of at least 10 ha.

Work will also be halted during the breeding season to ensure construction does not impact wildlife and monitoring of all earthworks will be maintained to minimise negative impact.

The project will use state of the art bifacial solar panels on a single-axis tracker system to maximise energy production.

“Spain has developed to become a major market for solar PV, with significant opportunities for companies to benefit from low-cost, low carbon solar power,” said Ib Vogt chief executive Anton Milner.

“This PPA is a perfect example, and I would like to thank all involved parties who helped make this a success and especially Apple, who are partnering with us on this project.

“We have a growing portfolio in Spain with more opportunities for corporate PPAs through our turnkey solar projects.”

Ib Vogt has built and is constructing more than 4.3GW of PV power plants globally with a project pipeline of more than 45GW.
