Dubai: The UAE will soon start using facial ID in some sectors to verify the identity of individuals.

According to a tweet by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the new experience will be led by the Ministry of Interior and if succeeded, it would be expanded so as to facilitate transaction completion procedures.

The new mechanism was approved on Sunday by the UAE Cabinet during its meeting held under the chairmanship of Sheikh Mohammed.

In a series of tweets, Sheikh Mohammed said: “Today, I chaired a Cabinet meeting, during which we lauded the UAE’s historic achievement, which we made when the Hope Probe reached Mars. It is a new milestone to start with the next fifty in the UAE. This project has taken the scientific aspirations of Arabs to new heights”.

“During today’s meeting, we approved the setting up of a team who will be responsible for automating government work through remote communication applications. The team will be led by the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications. The future of government work will be different in the coming decades,” Sheikh Mohammed added.

“We also approved a decision restructuring the board of directors of the Etihad Rail. The new board will be chaired by Sheikh Diab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The is a national project that will have a permanent developmental footprint by a team that we know will perfectly accomplish its mission,” the UAE Vice-President tweeted.
