In a recent editorial meeting at Who What Wear headquarters, the team got on the subject of runway shows, and how much they’ve changed and shape shifted over the years. We were especially struck by how seemingly somber catwalks are in 2016 compared to decades past when the models seemed to exude more personality and playfulness. That’s not to say the industry is completely vacant of this (did you catch Stella McCartney’s choreographed dance party in Paris a couple months ago for the S/S 17 shows?). However, we do think it might be time to find ways to shake things up in the runway department.

As all good changes happen, a look back at the past is necessary. And look back we did—all the way to the 1950s, making a stop in each decade as we went.
