Vinayakan rubbishes reports of him receiving only Rs 35 lakh for Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer: ‘I hope the producer…’

Directed by Nelson, the action thriller blockbuster film Jailer stars Vinayakan as the powerful villain Varman.

Headlined by Rajinikanth, the action thriller film Jailer is the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 behind the three Bollywood biggies Pathaan, Jawan, and Gadar 2. The Nelson directorial collected Rs 343.72 crore net in India and Rs 601 crore gross worldwide, as per the industry tracke Sacnilk.com.

After Jailer’s success, its producer Kalanithi Maran, who is the founder and director of the media conglomerate Sun Group, gifted luxury cars worth crores to Rajinikanth, Nelson, and music director Anirudh Ravichander. Amid these grand celebrations, reports came in that Vinayakan, who played the powerful villain Varman, was only paid Rs 35 lakh for the film.

Reacting to these reports in an interview with Sark Live, Vinkayak said, “Contrary to the rumours, I wasn’t paid 35 lakhs for Jailer. I hope the producer isn’t hearing this. I received three times that amount. The 35 lakh rumour was the work of certain mischief-makers back home. In any case, I received much more than that. They gave me exactly what I asked for. I was treated like royalty on the sets and was compensated well.”
Apart from Rajinikanth and Vinayakan, Jailer boasts of an ensemble cast comprising of Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Sunil, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, and Sunil Reddy among others. Tamannaah Bhatia, Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Makarand Deshpande are seen in small cameo appearances in the blockbuster film.

Jailer was released in the theatres worldwide on August 10 and started streaming on Prime Video from September 7. The film faced competition from Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 at the box office, all of which hit the theatres on August 11.
