While we wait patiently for the fourth season of The Crown to arrive on Netflix (less than 24 hours, guys), we can expect lots of drama to come our way – it is the season of Charles and Diana, after all. One thing we won’t be seeing played out on our screens, though, is Tampongate – a phone conversation in which Prince Charles was allegedly caught on tape joking that he wanted to be reincarnated as Camilla’s tampon.

In case you don’t have a clue what went on (it was back in 1993), it unfolded when a phone call between Prince Charles and his then-mistress leaked, in which the couple had a very intimate conversation.

As you can imagine, it was a huge deal at the time – but Josh O’Connor, who plays Charles in the upcoming season of the show, says he was adamant that it shouldn’t be part of the upcoming storyline.

“When they offered me the role, one of my first questions was – I say questions, I think it was pretty much a statement – ‘We are not doing the tampon phone call,'” O’Connor said in a conversation with SirusXM’s EW Live.

He’s played a few “slightly dodgy characters,” he explained, and “[The Crown] was my one chance for my parents to see something with no shame and there’s no way I was going to scuttle that by talking about tampons on Netflix.”

Prince Charles was probably pretty relieved about that news, since he and Camilla are now married and living a much calmer life. Luckily, we can expect lots of other royal details in the new season. Can’t wait!
