French brand Nodaleto is a specialist in this area – you may have spied its cult Bulla Babies on the first season of Emily in Paris – and founders Julia Toledano and Olivier Leone have amassed a loyal following. Dua Lipa was one of the first to wear the results of Nodaleto’s collaboration with Marc Jacobs’s Heaven line when she attended Gigi Hadid’s daughter’s birthday party earlier this month. Dua selected the tartan lug-sole Bulla Reis, styled with a checked look from Thom Browne’s Resort 2022 collection and Browne’s playful dog handbag.
Simone Rocha is another rich source of fancy flats that are catnip for the brand’s cool-girl following. Chanel’s creative director Virginie Viard presented metallic cap-toe versions of prim Mary-Janes in the Resort 2022 collection, to accompany the frayed bouclé tweed skirts, jackets and dresses, and Miu Miu offers velvet ballerina-esque flats and patent heeled versions.
Those seeking more grown-up shapes should look to Celine. Hedi Slimane included the stacked Melody tri-buckle pump in the brand’s autumn/winter 2020 collection, which has since been seen on none other than Carrie Bradshaw in stills from the forthcoming Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That. The seal of approval from the original “shoe gal”.
