Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty on Wednesday joined the likes of Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Ajay Devgn and Ekta Kapoor on expressing his opinion about the ongoing protest by farmers. Suniel, along with the other actors, urged people not to fall for false propaganda against India.
His tweet came after international pop icon as Rihanna and other known personalities like Mia Khalifa and Greta Thunberg tweeted in favour of the farmers’ protest in the country.
Soon after Suniel put up his tweet, the actor received massive backlash for his opinion on the farmers’ protest. Now, explaining his tweet, in an exclusive interaction with ETimes Suniel said that he was supporting the government and his country.
He said, “I am supporting the farmers. I’m supporting the government and supporting India. My statement was very very clear to all the celebrities from outside of India defaming us, and giving the wrong picture about what’s happening in our country.”
He further added, “I’m a farmer myself, my forefathers were farmers. And we should always respect that. The farmers are our backbone. And that is the most important thing, my statement is very, very clear. That doesn’t work. And this is to all the celebrities who are trying to comment on our country without really knowing too much about what’s going on.”
On Tuesday, international pop icon Rihanna while condemning the internet shutdown tweeted about the farmers’ protest, asking, “Why aren’t we talking about this?” while quote-tweeting a news report about the internet blockade at the protest and other sites in the country.
For the uninformed, the Union Home Affairs Ministry on Monday extended temporarily suspension of internet services till February 2 at Delhi’s — Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri borders to maintain law and order amid the farmers’ protest against the newly-enacted farm laws.
