Sonu Sood’s Mumbai office, six other places ‘surveyed’ by IT department, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal comes out in support

The Income Tax Department on Wednesday (September 15) ‘surveyed’ the Mumbai offices and homes in the suburbs belonging to Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, official sources said as per IANS.
According to IANS, teams of IT sleuths began the raids in the morning in connection with an alleged tax evasion probe, official sources said. As per a News18 report, six locations with relation to Sonu and his companies have been surveyed by the IT department.
He also had a scrap with the Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for allegedly converting his six-story house in Juhu into an illegal boarding.

Coming out in support of Sonu, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the actor has the prayers of all those families who got his support during tough times. He added that there are millions of difficulties on the path of truth, but the truth always wins.
“There are millions of difficulties on the path of truth, but the truth always wins. With Sonu Sood ji, there are prayers of lakhs of families of India who got Sonu ji’s support in difficult times,” he tweeted, tagging a news report of the IT department action.

Sonu Sood was recently declared as the brand ambassador of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s ‘Desh ka mentors’ programme by the Delhi government, under which students will be guided in making their career choices.
Other AAP leaders also came out in Sood’s support.
“This is nothing but a witch hunt by an insecure government against a giant philanthropist considered a ‘messiah’ by millions. His only crime is that he worked for the welfare of the downtrodden when they were orphaned by the state,” AAP leader and MLA Raghav Chadha tweeted.

AAP MLA Atishi tweeted, “The ‘survey’ of actor-and-philanthropist @SonuSood by the IT Dept is a clear message by BJP that they will victimise anyone who does good work for the country? Was it a crime for @SonuSood to help migrants during the lockdown? Was it a crime for him to help those in difficulty?”

Actor-and-philanthropist Sonu Sood grabbed the national spotlight last year for helping thousands of migrant workers reach their home states during the nationwide lockdown. He also helped people during the second wave of COVID-19 by providing them with oxygen beds, and other coronavirus related medicines.
