Shah Rukh shows off mass avatar in Atlee’s action-packed film, fans say ‘it will break Pathaan’s records’

Jawan trailer puts Shah Rukh Khan front and centre in an action-packed extravaganza from Atlee in his Bollywood debut.

The trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan is finally here, and barely a week before the film is set to release. The makers of the heavily-anticipated film dropped the trailer on Thursday morning much to the excitement of fans. Over the last few weeks, many fans had wondered if the trailer was ever going to be launched and why there was such a delay. But now, the action-packed trailer seems to have assuaged their doubts.

The trailer begins with Shah Rukh’s voice talking about a king who lost many battles and is now angry. We get a glimpse of SRK as a soldier before he masterminds a train hijack with his gang of girls. Nayanthara enters the fray as a cop hunting him down before we see that Shah Rukh’s character is seemingly out to settle old scores with the real villain – Vijay Sethupathi playing a rich and powerful arms dealer.

Fans have praised the traler with some calling it ‘the baap of all trailers’. One comment read, “This film will break Pathaan’s box office records.” Another said, “Atlee is showing off Shah Rukh here like south has showed off superstar Rajinikanth for years now. So cool!” There was some special praise for Vijay Sethupathi as well as Deepika Padukone’s brief appearance.

Jawan stars Shah Rukh Khan in his second film of the year. His last release – Pathaan – was his first in over four years. The film grossed Rs 1050 crore worldwide becoming the actor’s highest-grossing film ever and ending a run of box office disappointments for the superstar. Given that background, expectations are high from Jawan as well. Trade insiders say that it may rival Pathaan’s box office numbers.

What works for Jawan is that it has been made by an all-Tamil crew and hence the excitement and buzz for it is high down south as well. Jawan marks Atlee’s Hindi debut as a director and features Nayanthara, also in her Bollywood debut. Vijay Sethupathi, another big name in Kollywood, plays the antagonist. Rumours have been abuzz that Tamil superstar Vijay – who has worked with Atlee in three films – has a cameo in the film. Deepika Padukone is confirmed to have a special appearance in the film.

Produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan is set to release globally in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on September 7 in an attempt to capitalise on the festival of Janmashtami.
