Apple’s iPhone 15 series is just around the corner, but now new reports have emerged stating that Samsung will be the primary supplier of OLED panels for the four forthcoming smartphones as BOE, a prominent Chinese company, didn’t meet Apple’s strict quality standards for its displays.
Why the Switch from BOE to Samsung?
Initially, Samsung and LG were tasked to provide LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. BOE was assigned to provide LTPS OLED panels for the vanilla iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus.

BOE’s Quality Challenges
There were reports that the Chinese manufacturer was having trouble with the punch holes required for Face ID, which prompted Apple to make last-minute changes to its orders.
The Cupertino giant has now chosen Samsung to supply panels for its high-end Pro models, while BOE, despite losing orders, remains in the tech giant’s supplier network. BOE’s return to supplying OLED panels is contingent on resolving a light leakage issue. If they can successfully address the quality concerns by the end of the production timeline, they may still have a chance to secure some orders for units to be manufactured in 2024. In the interim, Samsung and LG will take the majority of OLED panel orders for the iPhone 15.
BOE’s OLED panels failing Apple’s stringent quality criteria is not a new occurrence. In recent years, there have been multiple instances of BOE’s OLED panels not meeting Apple’s quality standards. This has led the tech giant to incur additional expenses by procuring OLED panels from LG Display and Samsung Display instead.
