Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has scheduled its Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, August 28, 2023. The mega-conglomerate has been heavily investing in Jio telecom service, which has become the leading Indian telecommunication and wireless broadband service provider.

The Reliance AGM is usually packed with announcements that shape the industry and drive Indian consumers’ decisions. This year’s AGM is expected to include multiple launches that could redefine access to high-speed internet to urban, rural, and remote Indian households and even retail commerce driven largely due to payments made by scanning QR codes.

The Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2023 should start today, August 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM (IST). It is expected to go on for two hours.

As is the norm, RIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mukesh Ambani, will deliver the keynote address for the 46th RIL AGM. The humongous business empire’s MD is expected to announce new products and services of its multiple subsidiaries, most notably Reliance Jio Telecommunications (Jio) and Jio Financial Services (JFS).

RIL AGM 2023: New Products, Announcements, And What To Expect

RIL has been actively engaged in boosting its subscriber base, service area, speed, and quality of Jio telecom services. The company has been offering the “Jio Welcome Offer”, which unlocks access to 5G networks across the country at no extra cost.

Jio recently discontinued its most affordable or cheapest prepaid plan that offered access to high-speed data. The company launched 5G in October 2022. However, there are no formal prepaid or postpaid subscriptions for the service. Jio could announce proper plans for its 5G services at the AGM 2023, presumably with a complimentary Netflix subscription.

To help boost adoption and improve access to 5G services, Reliance Jio is tipped to announce its latest budget 5G Android smartphone. This device has surfaced in leaks and rumors on multiple occasions.

Jio could also formally announce the Jio AirFiber service, which promises to deliver up to 1Gbps speeds to homes and small offices via a Jio AirFiber 5G hotspot device. Although this device accepts a SIM card, it is meant to be a stationary Wi-Fi router and access point.

The biggest announcement, which could have significant ripples in physical retail commerce, would be the “Voice Box” that has a prominently displayed QR Code. Similar to the Paytm speaker box, the Jio speaker box would announce incoming payments instantly, but it would work with the JioPay services, which is the company’s e-wallet and micro-payments management service. These Point of Sale (PoS) boxes have been extremely popular after the introduction of NPCI’s UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which facilitates bank-to-bank instant payments using smartphone apps, QR codes, and internet connectivity.
