The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the upcoming flagship chipset, intended for no-comprise top-end smartphones. Samsung has already confirmed its Exynos 2400 SoC, which will be embedded in some variants of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphones.
The recently surfaced Samsung Exynos 2400 chipset is one of the first mobile processing platforms to feature 10 CPU cores and an upgraded Xclipse 940 GPU. Let’s look at the features and capabilities of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and see if it can retain its top against the Samsung Exynos 2400.

Mystery Nubia Smartphone Geekbench Listing Reveals Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC Hardware
An as-yet-unannounced Nubia smartphone was put through the Geekbench tests. Some reports suggest the Nubia Red Magic 9 could be one of the first Android smartphones to feature the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm.

The mystery Nubia smartphone featured an octa-core Qualcomm chipset. This SoC has a single Prime Performance Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.19GHz. There are five Performance Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.96GHz. The remaining two Efficiency Cortex-A520 cores are clocked at 2.27GHz.
The Geekbench listing also confirms this Qualcomm chipset has an Adreno 750 GPU, presumably clocked at 1.0GHz. The motherboard of the chipset is codenamed “pineapple”, and has 11.09 or 12GB of RAM.

The Weibo account that attached the Geekbench listing mentioned this is the regular version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This strongly suggests there could be a plus version of the SoC as well.
How Does The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Compare With The Samsung Exynos 2400?
As evident from the Geekbench listing, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 features a “1+5+2” architecture and is fabricated on the 4nm Node. Incidentally, even the Samsung Exynos 2400 is manufactured on the new 4nm Fabrication Node. It packs 10 CPU Cores with a 1+2+3+4 configuration.
In the Samsung Exynos 244, the single Prime Performance Cortex-X4 core in the Exynos 2400 is clocked at 3.1GHz. There are two additional High-Performance Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.9 GHz. Three Performance Cortex-A720 cores are clocked at 2.6 GHz, while the remaining four Efficiency Cortex-A520 cores are clocked at 1.8 GHz.

While these numbers may not mean much, all the cores ticking inside the Exynos 2400 are based on the ARMv9 architecture. This means Samsung isn’t clubbing old CPUs with new ones just to boast about the number of cores and the top clock speed.
It is indeed strange to note that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is packing cores based on the ARMv8 Architecture. This means Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC is a generation compared to Samsung’s chipset.
The Adreno 750 GPU embedded inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has several improvements in performance compared to the previous generation’s Adreno 740. It features a 10MB L3 cache, compared 8MB L3 cache in the predecessor.
However, the GPU embedded inside the Samsung Exynos 2400 could be the game-changer for the SoC. The upcoming chipset, primarily intended for flagship smartphones, houses an upgraded Xclipse 940 GPU. The new and improved AMD mobile GPU is a major highlight because it features twice as many graphics compute units compared to AMD RDNA 2 GPU Architecture.
Apart from these aspects, both the Samsung Exynos 2400 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. Both chipsets will be able to support cameras that can record in 8K resolution at 60 FPS. While the Samsung Exynos 2400 will pack the new 5G-enabled Exynos 5300 modem, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is rumored to feature the X75 5G modem.
Simply put, the winner between the Samsung Exynos 2400 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC could be decided based on the GPU performance and other finer aspects such as wireless connectivity, RAM, and storage read-write performance.
