Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing their strategic partnership, focusing on the second phase of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This commitment was highlighted during the fourth round of Bilateral Political Consultations in Beijing, as reported by Geo News. The meeting was led by Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch for Pakistan and Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong for China.

The discussions centred on advancing CPEC 2.0 projects, which are crucial for regional connectivity and prosperity. Both nations agreed to deepen cooperation in sectors like information technology, agriculture, and clean energy. They aim to achieve inclusive development through mutual benefit. An official statement emphasised this approach.

Focus on High-Quality Development

CPEC is a key part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), linking Gwadar Port in Pakistan with China’s Xinjiang province. The BRI aims to expand China’s global influence through infrastructure investments. During the talks, CPEC was described as a cornerstone of economic collaboration and a symbol of enduring friendship between the two countries.

The Chinese vice foreign minister discussed the synergy between five new corridors under CPEC 2.0 and Pakistan’s national development framework. These corridors focus on growth, livelihood, innovation, openness, and green initiatives, aligning with Pakistan’s goals of Exports, E-Pakistan, Energy, Environment, and Equity.

Strengthening Multilateral Coordination

Both countries stressed the importance of enhancing coordination at international forums like the United Nations Security Council. This reflects their shared interests in regional and global matters. The meeting also acknowledged CPEC’s role in fostering partnerships with other nations for common prosperity.

Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch described the Pakistan-China relationship as special and unique. She noted that both governments and peoples deeply value their longstanding friendship. This sentiment underscores the strong ties between Islamabad and Beijing.

Later, Foreign Secretary Baloch met with Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual interest. This engagement highlights the ongoing dialogue between the two countries on various fronts.
