Expanding Aerospace Capabilities

This collaboration marks the second partnership between Aequs and the Canada-based aerospace manufacturer. Last year, they initiated a similar venture for aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul in Karnataka. These partnerships highlight the strong foundation of the Aequs and Magellan relationship, which seeks to provide effective solutions for a global clientele.

Currently, Magellan is recognized as a centre of excellence for sand castings in North America. The company excels in casting complex geometries using the chemically bonded sand process. Aequs noted that India has a limited number of aerospace-qualified NADCAP sand casting facilities, and this venture aims to boost sand casting capabilities in Southeast Asia.

Strategic Initiatives for Growth

Aravind Melligeri, Chairman and CEO of Aequs, stated, “This proposal to explore the setting up of a sand casting facility with our long-time partner Magellan Aerospace at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster is aligned with our commitment to offer our customers world-class manufacturing processes and technologies.” The initiative aligns with India’s growing aerospace sector, driven by government initiatives like Make in India and the UDAN Scheme.

India’s aerospace sector has seen significant growth over the past decade due to increased private sector involvement and rising air traffic. With anticipated growth in aerospace and aviation, this potential new venture will focus on infrastructure development, cost advantages, capacity increases, and strategic initiatives crucial for realizing the sector’s global potential.

Phillip Underwood, President and CEO of Magellan Aerospace, expressed commitment to supporting this growth in India. The collaboration aims to enhance infrastructure and strategic initiatives essential for tapping into global opportunities in the aerospace sector.
