IIT-Kharagpur has partnered with z21 Venture, a venture capital firm, to initiate a startup accelerator programme for final-year students. This collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Rajendra Mishra School of Engineering Entrepreneurship at IIT-Kharagpur and the venture capital firm. The programme is designed to convert innovative ideas into market-ready businesses by providing mentorship, funding, and top-tier resources.

The accelerator will focus on developing technical solutions to address global issues. It aims to combine IIT-Kharagpur’s advanced research capabilities with z21 Venture’s investment expertise. This initiative seeks to empower student entrepreneurs to make a significant impact worldwide. The first cohort will include up to 10 teams, offering them continuous mentorship, strategic advice, and seed funding throughout the year.

Support and Eligibility for Students

IIT-Kharagpur will also provide essential infrastructure support to ensure a smooth transition from idea generation to implementation. This programme is open to final-year students pursuing BTech, MTech, and PhD degrees. The accelerator is structured to nurture their entrepreneurial skills and help bring their concepts to fruition.

IIT-Kharagpur Director VK Tewari stated, “This collaboration aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentorship, resources, financial support and professional networks which is necessary to transform their ideas.” This partnership underscores the commitment of both institutions to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

By offering comprehensive support, the programme intends to create an environment where student-led ventures can thrive. The initiative not only focuses on technical development but also on equipping students with the necessary skills and resources for successful entrepreneurship.
