King of Kotha features Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role with Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Prasanna, and Gokul Suresh in supporting roles.
Headlined by Dulquer Salmaan, King of Kotha was released in the theatres worldwide on August 24. The action thriller saw one of the best openings in Malayalam cinema history earning Rs 6.60 crore on Thursday but the film has seen a massive drop of more than 64% in its collections on its second day.
As per the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk.com, King of Kotha earned Rs 2.35 crore in India on Friday taking the two-day total collection to Rs 8.95 crore with most of its earnings, Rs 7.35 crore coming from the Malayalam version and the rest Rs 1.60 crore coming from its dubbed versions in Tamil (Rs 0.55 crore) and Telugu (Rs 1.05 crore).
The film is performing well in the overseas markets as its overseas collection is more than its domestic net collection. King of Kotha has earned Rs 9.50 crore in two days from foreign markets. With the India gross collection of Rs 10.50 crore, the total two-day worldwide collection stands at Rs 20 crore, according to the trade portal.
Apart from leading the film, Dulquer has also bankrolled the film under his production banner Wayfarer Films, along with Zee Studios. The actor told PTI that he wanted Malayalam people to come to the theatres in large numbers and hence, he decided to produce the action thriller, which marks the directorial debut of Abhilash Joshiy.
Dulquer also recently made his OTT debut with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s Netflix series Guns and Gulaabs. The crime comedy also stars Rajkummar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah, and Adarsh Gourav in the lead roles, and has been appreciated for its engaging screenplay, dark humour, and brilliant performances.
