During a meeting with Telangana’s Chief Minister and state officials, the Minister stressed the importance of settling outstanding dues. The state government must clear its legacy debts to DISCOMs as agreed and ensure prompt payment of current obligations. This was highlighted in an official statement from the Ministry of Power.

Power System Development Fund Schemes

The nine schemes under the Power System Development Fund are designed to bolster the power grid’s resilience in Telangana. The Centre’s support is crucial for these projects, which aim to provide reliable electricity across the state. The total investment for these initiatives amounts to Rs 488 crore.

Shri Manohar Lal also mentioned the Centre’s commitment to installing smart meters in government offices. This is part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The proposal from Telangana for this distribution scheme will be given priority consideration, according to the Minister.

Financial Health of Power Sector

The Minister pointed out that improving the rating of Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) could lower interest costs on debt. This would enhance the financial health of the power sector overall. Such improvements are vital for sustaining and expanding power infrastructure in Telangana.

The Centre’s support extends beyond financial aid, focusing on strategic improvements like smart meter installations. These efforts are expected to modernise power distribution and management in Telangana, ensuring efficient energy use and cost savings.

This comprehensive approach by the Centre aims to address both immediate and long-term challenges in Telangana’s power sector. By prioritising these initiatives, the government seeks to create a more robust and reliable electricity network for the state’s residents.
