Actor Ayushmann Khurrana was the only Indian to be honoured at this year’s TIME 100 Impact Awards. The actor travelled to the US to accept the award, which he got for his unusual film choices and philanthropic work with UNICEF and other non-profit organisations. On Monday, Ayushmann shared a post of himself receiving the award and his speech – which included a shloka from the Bhagavad Gita – won fans over.

Ayushmann shared a bunch of pictures and videos from the award gala, which was held on Sunday, on his Instagram. A video from the event included his accpetance speech there. He said, “Before I begin, I would like to recite one of the verses from our Indian/Hindu scripture and guide – The Bhagavad Gita – Karmanye vadhikaraste, Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma Karmaphalahetur bhurma, Te Sango Stvakarmani. This verse encapsulates the essence of selfless action. It emphasises to be process oriented than result oriented. It trains you to be detached from the fruits of your labour.”

Ayushmann’s moving speech earned him a standing ovation at the event. Many fans and industry colleagues reacted to the video online, praising the actor. Talking about the honour, Ayushmann said, “It is a humbling moment for me to be recognised as an artiste by the prestigious TIME Magazine! I’m here to represent India’s moment under the sun and I’m proud of the fact that india is becoming  a fulcrum of progressive story telling through cinema.”

Earlier, in its article announcing Ayushmann as one of the winners of the award, TIME wrote, “Khuranna has also become passionate about using his platform on the silver screen to advocate for social issues…. This approach has set the tone not just for a successful film career, but also for Khurrana’s parallel endeavors as a singer, a poet, a philanthropist, and an advocate for India’s youth.”

Ayushmann recently starred in Dream Girl 2, which has grossed over Rs 100 crore in India, his fifth film to breach the mark.
