It needs to be noted that the new price hike is on CNG-run transportation. Here is the new structure:
1. Kaali-Peeli Taxis: The new basic fare will be Rs 31 from February 1st, compared to the current price of Rs 28. It needs to be noted that this is the day’s basic fare. The night charges which come into effect from midnight every day, will also rise!
2. Autorickshaws: The basic fare for using autorickshaws during the daytime will increase to Rs 26 from the current Rs 23.
3. Blue-and-Silver AC Cool cabs: Fare in these CNG-based vehicles will surge to Rs 48 for the first 1.5 kilometres, which will be a hike of Rs 8 from the current basic fare of Rs 40.
The new fares will be applicable only after vehicles have recalibrated their meters to reflect the revised prices. The meters will be allowed to recalibrate within the next three months, starting from February 1st to April 30, 2025.
As per the PTI report, using the Khatua panel’s formula for deriving the fare hike of CNG-run taxis and autorickshaws in the Mumbai metropolitan region, the revised fare is calculated taking the average vehicle price consumer index rate of interest for vehicle loans and other things, the release said.
The latest price revision comes after a two-year gap. The last hike was in September 2022 by MMRTA which is chaired by transport secretary Sanjay Sethi.
