Arjun Rampal, who has played Jasjit Ahuja in Shah Rukh Khan’s Don, has reacted to Ranveer Singh’s Don 3.
Director-producer Farhan Akhtar announced the third instalment of his popular Don franchise with Ranveer Singh. The first two instalments were headlined by Shah Rukh Khan, and the movie was a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer. Arjun Rampal, who played the role of Jasjit Ahuja in the first reboot of Don, The Chase Begins (2006) has reacted to Ranveer Singh taking ahead the franchise.
While speaking to Zoom Entertainment, Arjun compared the Don with popular Hollywood franchises Bourne Ultimatum and James Bond, and showed trust in Ranveer Singh by calling him a ‘fantastic actor’. Arjun said, “I think it’s good. It is like when you do a Bourne Ultimatum, or a Bourne Identity or a James Bond (film). Don’s that kind of a franchise. So, the mantle’s being put onto Ranveer’s shoulders. I think he is a fantastic actor and I think he will give it his best shot. So, I wish him all the best.”
The announcement of Don 3 was met with mixed reactions. While many fans praised that an actor as popular and versatile as Ranveer was chosen for the role, others were unhappy with Shah Rukh Khan not returning. Comparisons were made, many of them not too kind to Ranveer. Addressing that, Ranveer further wrote, “I understand what a great responsibility it is to be a part of the ‘Don’ dynasty. I hope the audience gives me a chance and showers me with love, the way they have for numerous characters over the past so many years.”
The OG Don, directed by Chandra Barot, had Amitabh playing the titular gangster. Released in 1978, the film was a superhit and is considered a classic today. The 2006 remake, directed by Farhan, saw Shah Rukh essay the lead role, and yet again, the film was a success. A sequel, Don 2, was released in 2011.
