Apple’s MacBook Air 15 launched during the company’s WWDC 2023 event in June with a starting price of Rs. 1,34,900. However, with the rise of affordable laptops and Chrombooks, Apple is reportedly looking to dip its toes in this affordable space.

According to a report published by DigiTimes, Apple is planning on introducing affordable MacBook models to rival Chromebooks and entry-level Windows laptops.

Affordable MacBook Air arriving in 2024?

Apple’s budget-friendly MacBook models could be tailored towards the education sector. And although the next Apple event, Wonderlust, is just around the corner (September 12), the new affordable MacBook models won’t arrive until the second half of 2024, according to the report.

This move will expand Apple’s presence in the budget laptop space. Windows laptops and Chromebooks have been gaining quite the popularity among students and in the education sector.

The report highlights that more than 33.5 million Chromebooks were shipped in 2021. Apple aims to compete in this market by maintaining an expected price for these upcoming MacBook laptops under $1,000 (approximately Rs. 80,000).

Apple’s cheapest MacBook in India

As of now, the most affordable laptop from Apple in India is the M1 powered MacBook Air 13, which currently available from Rs. 99,900 in the country.

It features a 13.3-inch IPS Retina display, 1,600×2,560 pixels resolution, an Apple M1 chip, and a touch ID sensor among other things. It is worth noting that Apple is yet to confirm any plans about an affordable MacBook, so we’d recommend taking this information with a pinch of salt.

Apple is set to release new iPhones next week as its Wonderlust event kicks off on September 12. Apart from the iPhone 15 series, Apple is also expected to unveil the Watch 9 Series and a new AirPods Pro model at the event.
