Apple’s Wonderlust event is just around the corner, scheduled for today, September 12, at 10:30 p.m. IST. The tech world is buzzing with excitement as Apple is poised to unveil the highly anticipated iPhone 15 series during this event. This new lineup is expected to include the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. In a previous article, we delved into the details of the Pro iPhones. Now, let’s shift our focus to what we can expect from the standard iPhone 15 models.
Dynamic Island
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Dynamic Island, which was first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series, is expected to be upgraded in the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup. Kuo anticipates that the revamped Dynamic Island of the iPhone 15 series will include an integrated proximity sensor. This sensor will detect when the phone is brought near the user’s ear and automatically deactivate the display to prevent accidental keystrokes.

Cameras
We can anticipate a significant improvement in the camera department, with the adoption of a primary 48MP camera. This represents a substantial leap from the 12MP cameras featured in the past three generations.
USB-C: The New Standard
The iPhone 15 series is expected to have a major change: the Lightning port will be replaced with a USB-C port. This change will align Apple with industry standards and offer users a variety of connectivity speeds. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to support USB 3.2 speeds, while the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus should offer USB-C with speeds equivalent to Lightning USB 2.0.
This move also addresses concerns raised by European Union (EU) regulators. The tech giant has confirmed its compliance with the EU’s new legislation mandating USB-C for phones in member countries. The transition deadline is 2024, but Apple has not clarified if this year’s iPhone lineup will adopt the port or if it will be exclusive to EU-bound models.
Color Options
Rumors suggest that both the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be available in a range of colors, including black, white, blue, yellow, and pink. A leaked video has even surfaced showcasing these enticing color options.

Improved RAM
Apple plans to enhance the performance and capabilities of the iPhone 15’s RAM. While the Pro models may boast a total of 8GB of RAM, the standard iPhone 15 is expected to transition to the faster LPDDR5 standard while maintaining a 6GB capacity. This boost in RAM will likely result in smoother multitasking and improved overall performance.
Enhanced Connectivity
Analysts have also speculated that the iPhone 15 series will incorporate a new ultra-wideband communications chip. This addition is intended to bolster compatibility with Apple’s recently unveiled mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro. The goal is to create seamless connectivity between the headset and other Apple devices, further strengthening the Apple ecosystem.
Processor
While some iPhone 15 models are expected to feature the A17 Bionic chipset, not all four models will receive this upgrade. In the previous year, only the iPhone 14 Pro models benefited from an entirely new chipset, while the standard iPhone used a slightly enhanced version of the A15. Therefore, it is likely that the iPhone 15 Pro models will be equipped with the A17, while the standard iPhone 15 may receive an improved variant of the A16.
Battery Capacity and Charging
One exciting rumor surrounding the iPhone 15 series is the potential enhancement of battery capacity across all models. This is great news for users who have observed disparities in battery life between previous generations. The increased battery capacity may be achieved through a new stacked battery system, drawing inspiration from electric vehicle technology.
Moreover, it could pave the way for faster charging in future iPhones. As for charging, both the standard iPhone and the Plus model are expected to continue supporting the existing 20W standard.
