Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s debut film to skip theatrical release, will premiere on this OTT platform: Report

Apart from Junaid Khan, Maharaj reportedly also features Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari, and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles.

Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan has already completed filming his debut film Maharaj, which has been bankrolled by Yash Raj Films’ digital wing YRF Entertainment and directed by Siddharth P Malhotra. The film has been awaiting its release since past one year and now as per the latest reports, Maharaj will skip theatres and premiere directly on Netflix.

A source was quoted Pinkvilla, “Maharaj marks the beginning of a deep collaboration between YRF and Netflix. The two companies previously worked together on The Romantics, a widely acclaimed docu-series delving into the history of Hindi cinema in India through the lens of Yash Raj Films. With Maharaj, they are cementing their partnership for a long-term association.”

Apart from Junaid Khan, the film also features Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari, and Shalini Pandey in the lead roles. It was reported earlier that the film is based on Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, in which the head of a religious section filed a case against a journalist who exposed his sexual exploitation of female devotees. Junaid is said to be playing the journalist, while Jaideep is said to be playing the religious leader.
Before Maharaj, YRF Entertainment’s first web series, The Railway Men will also be released on Netflix. Announced in December 2021, the show is a tribute to the railway workers at Bhopal station who are the unsung heroes of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, the world’s biggest man-made industrial disaster. Babil Khan, R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, and Divyenndu Sharma play the leading roles.

On Friday itself, YRF Enterainment and Netflix put up a post on their social media channels announcing their collaboration. It read, “Netflix and Yash Raj Films forge an iconic partnership to mark a new era of storytelling in India.”
