Ko Toot’s IT Revolution

Leveraging his IT skills, Ko Toot crafted a unique weapon – a mobile game reflecting the real war scenarios in Myanmar. Dubbed “The PDF Game,” the immersive experience brought players closer to the struggles faced on the ground. The game’s characters, drawn from diverse backgrounds, resonate with authenticity. Doctors, Muslims, and members of the LGBT community embody the real people caught in Myanmar’s turmoil.

The Birth of “The PDF Game”

With clever in-game ads, the game collected over $508,000 in earnings, a clear financial success. Yet, the game’s impact went beyond money. Globally, players stepped into the shoes of People’s Defence Forces (PDF) soldiers, connecting deeply with the conflict’s harsh reality.

Ko Toot’s path, however, was strewn with obstacles as the app store regulations demanded game adjustments and renaming of the app to avoid any violent conflicts.

On Google Play, the game received a new name: “War of Heroes – The PDF Game.” Google clarified that it doesn’t permit apps that exploit or show insensitivity towards sensitive events. However, content is generally allowed if it aims to raise awareness about such events.

The game’s name also had to change on Apple’s App Store to “War of Heroes,” but unfortunately, it was then taken down from the platform. Apple cited guideline violations, particularly concerning enemies in the game targeting real entities like governments or corporations. Additionally, their policy on violent conflicts came into play.

Fortunately, the game was eventually reinstated. Ko Toot made necessary adjustments, including modifying the original artwork and eliminating certain military missions.

He expressed optimism about this development, stating, “This is definitely good news, and we expect to make more income now.”

The Regime’s Notice

The game’s impact was confirmed when the party criticized it as a tool for “sowing mistrust.” Despite the regime’s warnings, Ko Toot’s creation held its ground. Beyond making money, the game’s profits became crucial for Myanmar’s conflict. Working with a committed team, Ko Toot directed funds to support local PDFs.
