Another member of the original six supermodels is taking on the new wave of “It Girls.” Linda Evangelista is adding to the choir of voices talking about the latest group of polarizing models including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid by singing their praises, even admitting she has no advice to offer them. “They can give me advice. They’re so fabulous, they’ve got the world in their hands,” she told People StyleWatch. “They’re so aware and so in control—they’re just so fabulous.” But the new wave of It girls, who rose to fame in large part thanks to their social-media followings, haven’t always gotten easy praise from their predecessors.

The war of the (model) generations started in June when Evangelista’s friend and fellow model Stephanie Seymour joked with Vanity Fair that the current models needed their own name, one other than “supermodel,” which she dubbed a “thing of the past.” She ultimately decided on, “Bitches of the moment,” adding “That would be a good title for them.”

Jenner and Hadid weren’t exactly a fan of the new nickname—nor were their supporters. Hadid’s mother, model Yolanda Hadid, spoke out against Seymour, while Jenner expressed her feelings in a letter on her Web site. “If you choose to be a cyberbully, I’m going to stick up for myself,” she wrote. “No one is trying to steal Stephanie Seymour’s thing, or trying to be her. I actually looked up to her. She has a daughter! I guarantee you that she didn’t imagine someone so publicly shaming her daughter when she made those comments about us being ‘bitches of the moment.’”

Vanity Fair also caught up with Tyra Banks who defended Seymour as only speaking in jest and eventually concluded, “I’m happy that there are supermodels again.”

Now the world waits for the next fashion voice to chime in.
