Pune: A series of bomb blasts rocked the city of Pune on Wednesday.
Five blasts of low intensity took place within a length of 500 metres of Jangali Maharaj Road. So far one person is said to be injured – the very person carrying the detonators.
The latest reports say that three blasts took place on bicycle and the fourth in a garbage dump near Bal Gandarv theatre auditorium.
Very significantly, Sushil Kumar Shinde, the new Home Minister was to arrive here this evening.
So far, it has not been confirmed if it is a terror attack.
One bomb is said to have been kept in a dustbin outside McDonalds.
Police Commissioner of Pune, Gulabrao Pol, spoke to Zeenews saying that one of the blasts occurred in a plastic bag being carried by a person, who got injured in his own hands.
The plastic bag contained few detonators, batteries and wires.
The bomb disposal squad is present at the site of blast and the police said that Maharashtra ATS has begun the investigation.
The police have accessed the CCTV footage of the area and this is bound to be of great help in investigating the blasts.
The area has been completely cordoned off and the first visuals on Zeenews, showed cops flashing torches over the garbage heap.
The blasts remind of the fateful February 2010, when Pune was battered by German Bakery blast, killing 17.
